OceanShot Data Submission Portal
Submit DNA sample metadata and track your sequencing requests from submission through results delivery.
Welcome to the OceanShot Portal
Sign in to submit samples, track progress, and download your results.
Important: Please review every field carefully before submitting. OceanShot results are not guaranteed because success depends on sample condition, DNA quality, extraction quality, shipping conditions, and downstream library performance. Extracted DNA is strongly preferred over tissue.
Portal edits requested by the OS group or Cheryl should be applied promptly. For administrative access, request the portal password and editing rights from Nune.
Open data agreement
The OceanShot Project is committed to open science. All sequencing data, associated metadata, and derived analyses generated through this program will be made publicly available through recognized repositories no later than 3 years from the date of data generation.
Sample quality notice: sequencing, assembly, and analysis outcomes cannot be guaranteed. Results depend mainly on extraction quality, DNA concentration, DNA integrity, sample preservation, contamination level, and shipping conditions. Submitters are responsible for checking metadata and sample requirements before submission.
Sample type & condition
You may include up to 4 different sample types per shipment. Each group describes a specific sample type with its own tube, volume, and buffer details.
- Extracted DNA preferred: recommended Qubit dsDNA concentration 3–5 ng/µL or higher, with at least 40–50 µL when possible.
- Tissue submissions: use only when DNA extraction is not possible; recommended minimum tissue piece is approximately 3 mm, preserved in RNAlater, 95–100% ethanol, or DMSO–EDTA/salt buffer as appropriate for the organism and transport rules.
- Metadata: incomplete submissions may be returned for edits through the portal instead of email.
Shipping unextracted samples is significantly more expensive due to cold-chain requirements and international shipping regulations. We strongly encourage researchers to perform DNA extraction locally if possible. Contact the OceanShot team to discuss extraction protocols before shipping.

Customs letter for international shipments
Download this template letter in Japanese and English that should be of assistance for shipping your samples and getting them through Japanese customs. Please insert it in the box with the samples you are sending. We cannot guarantee there will be no hold ups. Please follow the local and international regulations for shipping samples for scientific purposes in appropriate reagents and amounts.
